In the conventional bipolar &#8216;sandwich&#8217; design, each flow channel borders only a single electrode. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/pim-van-der-stigchel-31bb58162\/\">Pim van der Stighel<\/a>, then a second year BSc student, in a process engineering &amp; thermodynamics class suggested an alternative in which each electrode faces four other electrodes &#8211; sufficiently novel and promising to file a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ad.nl\/gouda\/student-pim-20-verrast-tu-vraagt-patent-aan-op-zijn-slimme-idee~a0ca73b3\/\">patent application<\/a>\u00a0together.\u00a0Another team of BSc students, in co-supervision with Hadi Rajaei, made this into a metal-3D-printed prototype producing hydrogen.
